Decisive execution

Membership verification without waiting for ideal SSO

Protected a non-negotiable eligibility rule without waiting indefinitely for an unavailable sign-in option.

ImpactCreated a controlled path to launch while retaining the partner's membership requirement.
01

Context

Only eligible Costco members could access the insurance offer. The preferred sign-in method was not available, and waiting for it would have put the broader launch timeline at risk.

02

The decision

Separate the required outcome—verified membership—from the preferred implementation, then move forward with the production connection that was actually available.

03

What I did

  • Documented the options, dependencies, and reversibility of the decision.
  • Recommended the existing production member-ID connection rather than waiting for an uncommitted future solution.
  • Defined the exception, measurement, and improvement path needed to manage customer friction.
04

Result

The team had a practical route to launch member verification while preserving the core eligibility control and a path to improve the experience with evidence.

05

What I learned

Move faster on reversible decisions by protecting the required control, making risk visible, and agreeing on what evidence would trigger the next change.
